Claudia Ryan is a painter living in Bradenton,
Fl. She was born in Washington DC in 1952, and grew up in Florida. In the beginning Claudia was self taught and often created works from her imagination using her own hermetic imagery. In 1974-76 she was fortunate to study independently at Keene State College with the abstract - expressionist painter Robert Newman. He described himself as a "painter of signs and symbols"
Claudia moved from NH to Los Angeles in 1980 to attend Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, later transferring to California Institute of the Arts in1981. While studying at these institutions, Claudia benefited greatly from interactions with mentors Jill Giegerich, YnezJohnston, John Mandel, and conceptualist artist Douglas Huebler.
Claudia returned to Florida in 1987. Consistently, but at the same time almost reclusively, she maintained her art practice while working in nursing as a CNA. From 1990 to1998,at Ringling School of Art and Design,(before she matriculated there in1998 to complete her BFA degree ), she created a series of large scale watercolor monotypes. Examples can be found in the Archive section of the artist's website. Ryan's work has been exhibited regionally and nationally, and is in several private and public collections.
